high school of excellence

Students at the pcm high school value education highly as they know that is the way out of poverty

Children from Kyehimba School, (Kakagate School has only children up to year 4 at the moment), who pass the strict national Year 7 exams are offered a place in the PCM High School at Mbarara.

Personal Best

Whether it is trying on donated school sweaters from the UK, learning in class, studying for exams, or on the sports field, these students strive for excellence.  They have their eyes on their goal of becoming a doctor, lawyer, teacher, nurse, orthopaedic surgeon, or even president of Uganda.
From getting up around 5am until around 9pm in the evening with only short breaks throughout the day, they, and their teachers, work tirelessly towards achieving the goal of university and their chosen career path.

Individual Encouragement

Although Pastor Emmy and Mama Sarah oversee over 2000 children, they have a passion for each child as an individual and they have passed this passion on to the staff members in each school.
Here at the High School, the students have tremendous scope to have a go at anything, within reason, that they would like to try.  It could be singing in the choir, composing songs, playing instruments, putting a music group together and performing, working on the land growing crops, taking care of the animals, sport activities...  Ideas are welcomed and opportunity given to try things out.

Character

The students at the High School are also challenged to have the kind of character that will make them individuals worthy of being employed and given responsibility in the workplace.
They are encouraged to remember where they came from and to seek to be part of doing for others, the same good that they have received themselves, from their sponsors and the excellent role models they have in the school.

Proud in the right way

Head Teacher Simon is proud of the students under his care.  He talks like a proud father while maintaining the discipline and search for excellence in all that he does.
That pride is shared by all of us from the UK who have visited and seen how well these young people are doing.

Young people in Uganda, like our young people in the UK, face many challenges and temptations, some similar and some very different.
It would be wrong to pretend that every story is a success.  There are heartaches too and we encourage prayer for these students that they will stand strong in their Christian faith, their moral values, and their commitment to do what is necessary to get out of the poverty trap.
